Cottage House Big Possibilities

I think that wanting what one has is a real revelation.  Wanting what one has.  Think about that.    However, it is probably more common to want what you don’t have.  That said, perhaps this house/garage combo can give you both – want what you have, have what you want.

If the house is on a lake, a pond, a small, cozy or tree-lined lot, if it is tucked into a mountain setting or on a quiet country lane where the loudest sounds you’ll hear are buzzing insects and the breeze that stays to chat while you sip lemonade on your porch, then you want this house.  This darling Craftsman style home (HPP-3456) is small but mighty.  It is packed with personality and possibility.  What is enough?  This is.

This plan does not have a garage, but perhaps that’s ok because it opens your possibilities to having what you want, thus, wanting what you have.  Don’t let 1,073 square feet of house limit your thinking.  This has 2 bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms.

The charm of this home greets you at first glance.  With shake siding and large windows fronted by a cozy front porch, you are met with a sense of peace and excitement.  You are excited to be here.  You feel peaceful because it’s enough.  Your covered front porch, with tapered columns and natural stone, along with the natural stone pathway to your front door, you will be glad to be here.  Come inside, let me show you.

Stepping across the threshold into your great room, your warm home greets you. A wall on your left offers you a bench to sit on and take your shoes off, and pegs to hold your scarf and jacket.  The nook under your bench will store a folded blanket perfectly for nights when temperatures drop just enough, and you need to hold the chill at bay.  Rocking on the front porch will be even cozier on those nights.  Your great room is your blank canvas.

Your kitchen is separated from the great room by a snack bar counter set-up.  Perhaps you can fit a few barstools here.  The kitchen also has plenty of room for a nice dining table.  A door from the eat-in area leads out to your backyard and patio.  The laundry room is also just off the kitchen.

To the left of the great room is a ‘nook’ of a hallway with entrance to a full bathroom.  This bathroom has space for a sliding door into the laundry room. Very handy.

The two bedrooms in the house are here, one facing the front of the house, the other to the back.  Between these bedrooms is a full bath with dual sinks in the vanity.  Each bedroom has plenty of closet space.

See, I told you this house is enough.  Have what you want.  Want what you have.

Now, heading out your back door, your options for a deck or a stone patio for your grill and comfortable seating and a fire pit greets you.  Sit.  Stay.

So, you realize this house doesn’t have a garage, but this plan (HPP-26203) will be an awesome addition.  This two-car garage can house your cars or a car and a boat, especially if this home is on or near a lake. Add a refrigerator and a cabinet for snacks to this garage and you’re set.  What I think is totally great about this garage is what it offers, besides storage.  Rooftop living space!  There is a staircase on the backside of the garage that leads up to your outdoor surprise. With the entire top of the flat-top garage available to you, you can add more living space, dining space and playing space for great outdoor entertaining.  Maybe you want an oversized lawn game or cornhole toss.  If you live where the scenery is beautiful, imagine the view from here. This is an ideal spot for a telescope and night-sky gazing.  If you’re a street or so off a lake or pretty view, you’ll see it better from here.  I think this garage, finished with shake siding, like the house, will be charming.  Put a railing all the way around the top of your mezzanine living space for safety, a neat look and call it done.  Call it time to entertain!

This house, this garage is waiting for you.  You want it.  Have what you want, want what you have.  Make this your own.  Welcome Home.
